Meet Our Summer 2023 Interns

About Our Program

The American Red Cross Greater New York Region offers exceptional undergraduate and graduate students developmental internship opportunities at our chapters across the Greater New York Region, which includes New York City, Long Island, Greenwich, Conn., and the Lower Hudson Valley.

Through training and mentorship students are involved in projects critical to the day-to-day work of our non-profit organization gaining an insider’s perspective on our mission.

Our Volunteer Internship Program provides opportunities for professional experience and exposure to the non-profit sector while receive networking, personal, and professional development opportunities, and academic credit if applicable.

Our program is in accordance with all applicable employment laws including the Fair Labor Standards Act. While our main program is a volunteer internship experience, we offer College or University credit. Preference is given to those with an academic requirement for an internship however, all students are encouraged to apply. In addition, we partner with college and university programs seeking placements for students in nonprofits for service corps, experiential learning, or similar programs.

Communications Interns

These interns are practiced and persuasive public speakers, have strong writing skills and are savvy about social media. They communicate the Red Cross mission behind-the-scenes, on-camera, in-person and online.

Madeleine Bamford

Intern, Communications and Social Media Specialist

Hello everyone! I am very excited to join the Red Cross Greater New York Region team! I am a rising junior at Fordham University studying International Studies and Journalism. In my future career, I hope to work for an international relief fund or broadcast news organization as an international correspondent. My writing has been professionally published 3 times in the past year! Though I am a big fan of NYC, I’m originally from Chicago. Fun facts about me: I speak spanish and run my own blog! 


Jada Jenkins

Intern, Communications and Social Media Speciali

Hey, my name is Jada Jenkins! I'm a rising sophomore at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. I'm majoring in Film with a minor in Marketing and Women's Leadership. My ultimate goal is to join the film industry and contribute to telling amazing stories in amazing ways (my ultimate goal is to work on a superhero movie!). I love video editing and creation but when I'm not doing that you'll catch me reading comics. I'm so excited to be here!


Community Relations Interns

These interns want to be uniquely positioned as facilitative leaders in the community, increasing capacity to deliver services and facilitating local resilience-building actions. They will be working to develop strong relationships with federal, state, and local elected officials to increase awareness of our programs

Kaitlyn Myers

Intern, Community and Government Relations Coordinator

Kaitlyn Myers is a rising Junior at New York University majoring in Public Policy and minoring in Metropolitan Studies. Originally from outside of Philadelphia, Kaitlyn is passionate about advocacy and policy, especially policy that promotes economic equity and community empowerment. Whether at a non-profit, an advocacy group, or an agency, their future aspirations revolve around fostering interconnected and thriving communities through policy work or on-the-ground initiatives.

Kaitlyn is currently involved in their student hall council, where they have had the opportunity to bring these values to their own community. Otherwise, they enjoy second-hand fashion, making and eating arguably too much macaroni and cheese, and having fun with artistic makeup looks. Overall, they are ecstatic about this amazing opportunity to work with the Red Cross as a Community and Government Relations Intern!


Development Interns

These interns are natural networkers and enjoy creating effective strategies for engaging donors and planning events. They are critical thinkers and strong communicators who thrive in a busy, fast-paced and deadline-driven environment. They are working with an equally driven team to help mobilize the power of donors in support of the Red Cross mission.

Nicole Alexander

Intern, Nonprofit Fundraising - Corporate Partnerships Specialist

Hello, my name is Nicole Alexander and I am a rising senior studying Marketing at Michigan State University! Following my education, I hope to obtain a career in sales, nonprofit work, marketing, or a similar path. I enjoy collaborating with others, lending a helping hand to those in need, and utilizing people skills while furthering my career goals and aspirations. A fun fact about myself is that I love to travel! A goal of mine is to visit all seven continents and 50 states. I look forward to this summer at American Red Cross!


Sadie Kriegler

Intern, Nonprofit Fundraising - Corporate Partnerships Specialist

My name is Sadie Kriegler, I am a rising senior at Bates College, majoring in Politics and minoring in Digital and Computational Studies, who is fascinated with the intersection of action, data, and representation. I strive to make the communities I am involved in function more effectively, efficiently, and with authenticity. Combining my skill sets and interests in communications, outreach, data analysis, and always lending a helping hand has led me to the American Red Cross! I enjoy baking for others in my free time - I live by the idea that a treat is always necessary!!


Disaster Cycle Services Interns

These interns are action-driven and client-focused. They will be on the front lines delivering services to clients and/or work behind-the-scenes developing plans for effective service delivery.

Hatoon Alzahrani

Intern, Disaster Responder Development Coordinator

My name is Hatoon but you can call me Hat, and I am a hardworking and enthusiastic bachelor's student studying Security Management with a Homeland focus. With a keen interest in international politics and a strong desire to make a difference, I hope to work in a non-profit organization such as the United Nations to help bring about meaningful change from inside.

Participating in the National Model United Nations (NMUN) conference not once, but twice, was one of the highlights of my academic experience. My team and I were able to win the renowned Outstanding Delegation award, as well as two Position Paper honors, as a result of these experiences. These accomplishments revealed my ability to work successfully with people, do in-depth research, and offer well-reasoned arguments.

Aside from my academic interests, I have a strong desire to travel and a profound respect for the many cultures and landscapes that our globe has to offer. One interesting thing about me is that I have had the opportunity to visit all continents except two, which has extended my viewpoint and deepened my dedication to global collaboration and understanding.  


Jordan Amezquita

Intern, Disaster Responder Development Coordinator

A volunteer Firefighter with skills in problem-solving and adaptability. Who is enthusiastic about learning/ working with everyone throughout this internship. I'm currently pursuing a degree in emergency management administration at John Jay. I plan to take what I learned here and my degree to help as many people and the community as possible. A Fun Fact about me is that I love to sketch and draw in my free time. I also love watching sports.

Tint Chann

Intern, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist, NYC

My name is Tint Chann, and I am a graduate student pursuing a master’s in emergency and disaster management. My background is in geology and environmental stewardship, with an experience in laboratory services. I hope to gain practical experience in disaster management during my time in Red Cross and continue to assist in international humanitarian conflicts in the future. In my spare time, I am exploring the city's culinary scene.


Mehdi "Joseph" Ladeb

My name is Mehdi (Maddie) and I am an International Criminal Justice major at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. One of my skills is my ability to multitask and a fun fact about me is that I have a dog.


Paul Matrecano

Intern, Disaster Relief Specialist, Staten Island, NY

My career goal is to become an Emergency Manager or Intelligence Analyst to provide support for those in need. After witnessing 9/11, all I ever wanted to do was prevent international and domestic terrorist attacks by understanding the structure of terrorist’s organizations and ideologies on a broader spectrum.

To pursue my goals, I have interned with the Division of Homeland Security in the Capital District of New York. This experience allowed me to expand my knowledge of professional research and become accustomed to the work environment. In addition, I receive an Associate in Computer Information System to get a broad understanding of technology because technology is a critical factor in preventing terrorism. I also received my Bachelors in Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity to gain knowledge in multiple areas related to terrorism prevention.

I am current pursuing my Master’s in criminal justice at John Jay college to broaden my knowledge and to receive high level education in counter terrorism. I plan to be a part of something greater than myself to help lead the next generation to a safer future.


Oluchi Mbachu

Intern, Disaster Responder Development Coordinator

Oluchi is a goal driven human rights and humanitarian worker who has devoted her life to advocating for Justice and equality. She developed a deep sense of empathy and a strong commitment to make a positive impact in the world from an early age. Oluchi holds a bachelor’s degree in law and currently pursuing a master’s degree in human rights. Inspired by the resilience of the people she encountered and motivated by the need for change, Oluchi is dedicated to unwavering commitment to addressing human rights violations, promoting social inclusion, and providing vital assistance to those affected by conflicts, disasters, and systematic injustices.


Sapan Munsiff

Intern, Disaster Responder Development Coordinator

Hello, I'm Sapan and I am currently a pre med student at NYU majoring in public health and bio. In my career I hope to practice medicine in understaffed regions of the world lacking adequate medical care. I have been an EMT in NYC for close to two years now and I'm excited to expand my knowledge with the Red Cross.


Khondoker "Richy" Rahman

Intern, Disaster Response Management--Brooklyn

Hi! My name is Khondoker Rahman, but my friends call me Richy. I am currently a graduate student at John Jay College of Criminal Justice pursuing a Master's Degree in Emergency Management. I hope to become an emergency manager for Organizations such as the Red Cross or even the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. From my experiences as a firefighter and an EMT, I am very resourceful, a big team player, and can work under extremely stressful situations. I love to play Nintendo video games, where my favorite character is Luigi!


Nola Sheehan

Intern, Disaster Recovery Specialist

My name is Nola Sheehan, and I am a rising senior at Fordham University majoring in Psychology. My career aspirations are to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse practitioner, focusing on reducing mental health stigma and offering more accessible treatment. In addition, I have a passion for non-profit work and hope to be involved with non-profit organizations in my career. My skills include a willingness to learn, communication, organization, teamwork, and a positive attitude. I look forward to applying these skills to my time at the red cross and having the opportunity to interact with my incredible fellow staff and volunteers. A fun fact about me is that I was a competitive gymnast for seven years!


Varshanie "Varsh" Sookwah

Intern, Disaster Preparedness Coordinator

Hi! I'm Varshanie, or Varsh for short. I'm an undergrad sophomore majoring in Law and Society, and I aspire to be someone that reinvents the idea of community in the face of law. I'm proudly trilingual, speaking English, Spanish, and my horrible French (it's a work in progress!). I'm also a published poet (c. 2019) and I adore books, good music, and meeting new people!


Stefanie Viera

Intern, Disaster Workforce Engagement Coordinator

My name is Stefanie Viera and I am a first year undergraduate History major with a minor in Latin American Studies at Ramapo College of New Jersey. After I receive my B.A., I hope to receive a masters degree and pursue a career in human rights. I am an extremely passionate and determined person, and I have experience working as a Social Media Coordinator for an NGO based in Guatemala dedicated to improving education of children. A fun fact about me is that my favorite book is Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy!


Anna Zhao

Intern, Disaster Training & Exercise Coordinator

Hi, I'm Anna Zhao, currently a student in Columbia University majoring in Human Capital Management. Throughout my career in a financial company in China, I took on roles as campus recruiter, proprietary trading HRBP, and a volunteer D&I advocator. I have a proven track record of success in providing strategic HR support and developing innovative HR solutions that align with business objectives.


International Services

These interns want to be uniquely positioned as a facilitative leader in the community, supporting efforts to build not only more disaster-resilient communities but also stronger and well-connected communities overall. They may work either behind-the-scenes or in the community to build local resilience by supporting the Restoring Family Links (RFL) program, teaching International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and/or spearheading outreach efforts to promote our programs.

Ilan Listgarten

Intern, Service Program Coordinator

Hi! I am a rising junior at Connecticut College, double majoring in International Relations and Environmental Studies with a minor in French. I have an interest in international environmental politics and hope to become an environmental lawyer. I am passionate about creating positive social change, which I have done through my experience leading social and environmental movements in my communities. A fun fact is that I lived in Switzerland for half a year when i was young which has the inverse flag of the Red Cross. 


Service to the Armed Forces

These interns want to be uniquely positioned as a facilitative leader in the community, supporting efforts to build not only more disaster-resilient communities but also stronger and well-connected communities overall especially for those who serve our nation. They may work either behind-the-scenes or directly with members of the military, veterans and their families to help them prepare for, cope with, and respond to, the challenges of military service

Noa Abicidan

Intern, Service Program Coordinator

Hi, my name is Noa and I'm from Montreal, Canada. I am a rising junior at Stern College for Women and I love living in New York! I’m a political science major and business minor hoping to pursue a career in law. I am very passionate about Israeli politics and love hanging out with my family and friends. I am very organized and creative and a fun fact about me is that I am trilingual!


Nilam Nematullah

Intern, Service Program Coordinator

Hi everyone, my name is Nilam! I am currently studying Law & Society and Human Rights with a minor in Social Entrepreneurship at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. I am very interested in international law and human rights and I aspire to work for the United Nations as an attorney one day. I am currently working as a paralegal for a corporate law firm and before this role I used to work for a non-profit organization as a case manager. One fun fact about myself is that I speak three languages, Farsi/Dari, Russian, and English. I look forward to this internship and can’t wait to meet everyone.

Maura Mulholland

Intern, Sustainability Researcher

Maura Mulholland is a rising junior at Barnard College, originally hailing from upstate New York. She is double-majoring in Environment & Sustainability and Human Rights on the Pre-Law track, ultimately striving to become a lawyer specializing in environmental advocacy. Maura comes to the American Red Cross in the hope of increasing her literacy on national and global environmental issues, and to strengthen her writing skills, especially through the lens of public policy. Her interests outside her career include loud music, bold fashion, and secondhand books.

Emma Dolan

Intern, Volunteer Recruitment Communications and Social Media Specialist

My name is Emma Dolan and I am a student at Fordham University. I'm majoring in Sociology and Communications with a concentration on media studies. I hope to work in non-profit events and communications post-grad. I'm from NorCal so I'm a big Warriors fan! I live in New York City full-time now but I'm originally from a small farm town, so I've lived the best of both worlds!!

Our team is volunteer-led and captures the talents and energy of talent acquisitions volunteers who work with managers and supervisors throughout each phase of the application and hiring process. Throughout the years they have reviewed thousands of applications to find the best collegiate talent for our program.

Pam Mancini

Internship Program Lead /
Talent Acquisitions Volunteer

Pam Mancini joined Volunteer Services and Mass Care at the American Red Cross in the spring of 2016. She worked for the Federal Government as a Program Evaluator at the Government Accountability Office (GAO) in Boston and New York City and as a Systems Analyst at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Washington, D.C. Pam holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University. She enjoys travel and lived in Hong Kong for two years.

Susan Curley

Talent Acquisitions Volunteers

Susan joined the American Red Cross as a volunteer in Mass Care and Volunteer Services in the fall of 2017. Previously, She worked in public accounting at Spicer & Oppenheimer. After receiving her CPA, she worked as an Internal Auditor at Goldman Sachs & Co. She enjoys tennis and yoga . She has a BS in Accounting from SUNY Geneseo and pursued graduate studies in Public Policy at New York University.

Francine "Fran" Medaglia

Talent Acquisitions Volunteers

Fran’s interest in pursuing a career with direct service nonprofits began when she accepted a position at Women on the Job under the direction of its’ Founder, Lillian McCormick. Through her work at Women on the Job, an education and advocacy project for women’s workplace rights and equality, Fran addressed issues surrounding systemic discrimination in the workplace, including the issue of women’s right to pay equity.

As a Nonprofit Management Consultant, Fran provided technical guidance to numerous grassroots organizations with projects varying on organizational needs. In 2015, she was hired as Director of Development for The Safe Center LI where she managed the department team and all fundraising, stewardship, marketing, and communications necessary to fulfilling the agency’s mission of restoring hope to adult and child victims of sexual assault and abuse.

Fran holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Long Island University—C.W. Post and an M.B.A. from Baruch College with a focus on Marketing Management. She holds certifications in both nonprofit fundraising management and public relations and will sit for the C.F.R.E. exam in April 2022.
